From Science to Architecture

Shawn Rassekh has come full circle. Although always having an affinity to design, his undergraduate education is from Simon Fraser University in the department of science. While gaining a degree in Biomedical Physiology and Kinesiology, he became attracted to the architecture of the human body rather than the physiology and internal mechanisms involved. Shawn began to focus on ergonomics, trying to learn design for the human form. In a directed studies program working with one of his ergonomics professors, he assisted in the design of a wheelchair. This was the tipping point for Shawn, realizing that he was more attracted to the design of the chair rather than the science that went into it.

Moving on to graduate school, Shawn attended  the Southern California Institute of Architecture where he received his Masters Degree and graduated with honors in 2015. He was awarded Runner-Up Best Thesis for his final project there.

Since graduating, Shawn has worked on all scales ranging from commercial, civic, and residential projects. Over the years, Shawn has gained experience in international design competitions, furniture design, public installations, and single and multi family residences. When it comes to design, the underlying goal is that quality and elegance can be achieved through simplicity. Design should not be contemporary, it should be timeless
